Ann. Méd. Vét., 2012, 156 (1), pp 25-36 Sanitary and technical constraints in rural guinea fowl production
in sub-saharan region of AfricaBOKO K.C., KPODEKON T.M., DAHOUDA M., MARLIER D., MAINIL J.G.Abstract :
Constraints against rural poultry
(chickens, and guinea fowl) in
sub-Saharan scavenging breeding
were reviewed. In the
both species, lower productivity
is associated to technical and
sanitary constraints. Guinea fowl
breeding is intimately depending
on poultry breeding in the scavenging
system in the area.
On a sanitary point of view, collibacilosis,
salmonellosis and
Newcastle have been reported.
Newcastle disease most affects
chickens than guinea fowl.
Salmonella Gallinarum seroprevalence
reached 5,8 to 22,3%
in both species. This suggests
the presence of this strain in rural
breeding, although the prevalence
was lower than the values
observed in the same exotic species.
The importance of parasitic
infestations was also reported.
In order to increase productivity
in rural poultries, feed improvement,
hygienic and sanitary
preventive program have to be
applied. Get the PDF Contact person : cyrilleboko@yahoo.fr |
