Ann. Méd. Vét., 2010, 154 (2), pp 104-112 Role of Th17 cells in infectious
and autoimmune
diseasesCAMBIER L., DEFAWEUX V., BALDO A., MATHY A., TABART J., BAGUT E.T., ANTOINE N., MIGNON B.Abstract :
In the recent past, T helper 1(Th1) and Th2 lymphocytes appeared sufficient to explain most immune responses induced
during inflammatory and infectious diseases. However a third type of Th lymphocytes was recently discovered and has focused attention on several of
these diseases. Indeed, Th17
lymphocytes are significant and
sometimes even decisive in the
establishment of a protective immune response during bacterial and fungal infections. They especially can reduce fungal burden by producing pro-inflammatory cytokines and recruiting
neutrophils on the site of infection in some mycosis. Th17 cells are also potent inducers of some autoimmune diseases which were previously associated with a Th1 response. Get the PDF Contact person : bmignon@ulg.ac.be |
