Ann. Méd. Vét., 2009, 153 (2), pp 112-128 Biomolecular methods to assess complex bacterial populations.HUYBENS N., MAINIL J., MARLIER D.Abstract :
Today, traditional bacterial cultures
techniques aren’t sufficient for
studying complex bacterial population.
For the past twenty years, a lot of studies have shown that a wide majority of bacterial species can’t be grown on traditional culture media. They’ve also
approved the use of biomolecular
methods to assess complex bacterial
populations whatever their origin, digestive, aquatic, from the soil… These methods are numerous but follow generally the same framework. The DNA is extracted then amplified, sometimes treated and finally visualized or sequenced.
This review discussed the more common methods used to assess bacterial population and the different points to consider before choosing one or several
appropriated methods. Get the PDF Contact person : nathalie.huybens@ulg.ac.be |
