Ann. Méd. Vét., 2009, 153 (2), pp 105-111 Influence of a phenotypic selection on the growth performances and the
development of muscles and skeleton trait of young Borgou cattle at the
Okpara Breeding Farm.YOUSSAO A.K.I., KOUTINHOUIN G.B., KPODEKON T.M., AGNANDJO H., TOURE Z., AHISSOU AAAbstract :
The effect of a phenotypic selection
on the weight performances
and the body measurements
were carried out at the Okpara
Breeding Farm on 152 Borgou
cattle, 24 months old, of which 79
were selected and 73 not selected.
The mode of breeding was
semi-intensive with a diet based
on the exploitation of natural
grazing. The animals received a
complement diet and benefited a
health care program. The weight
and the body measurements were
registered and analysed. The birth
weight and the weight at 12 and
24 months old of selected animals
were significantly higher (P
< 0.05) than those of non selected
animals. No effect of the selection
was observed on the withers
height and the trochanter width.
The average daily gain from the
birth to one year old, the round of
the buttocks and the body length,
the back width, the back length
and the pelvis length of selected
animals were higher (P < 0.05)
than those of non-selected animals.
The selection on the weight,
the withers height and the pelvis
width of young reproductive bull of Borgou breed improves significantly
the weight performances and some aspects of muscular and skeletal development of the Borgou breed. Get the PDF Contact person : issaka.youssao@epac.uac.bj |
