Ann. Méd. Vét., 2001, 145 (4), pp 260 - 268 Epidemiology of cattle fasciolosis (Fasciola gigantica Cobbold, 1885), paramphistomosis and dicrocoeliosis in Benin.ASSOGBA M., YOUSSAO A.Abstract :
The epidemiological study of Fasciola gigantica was carried out by coprological examination of 3600 cattle between October 1995 and September 1996. The technique used for coprologic analysis was the qualitative method by simple sedimentation. The prevalence of fasciolosis was influenced by the area and the month of sampling (p < 0.001). It reached 0.41, 0.66, 13.1 and 21.4 % for the Littoral, Borgou, Alibori and Gaya, respectively. It decreased from October to January, reached its minimum in February and increased from April to August. Paramphistomum sp, Dicrocoelium hospes and the gut strongyles were also identified during coprologic analyses. The prevalence of paramphistomosis, dicrocoeliosis and gastro-intestinal strongylosis were also influenced by the area and the month of sampling (p < 0.001). Paramphistomosis and dicrocoeliosis were observed mainly in the Littoral area; conversely, the gastro-intestinal strongylosis were more prevalent in Borgou, Alibori and Gaya. The prevalence decreased with the dry season, whereas the eggs excretion increased during the rainy season. Get the PDF Contact person : iyoussao@student.ulg.ac.be |
