Ann. Méd. Vét., 2006, 150 (3), pp 167-172 Residues and contaminants in food: 25 years of progress in their analysis
V. ConclusionsHUINS G., MAGHUIN-ROGISTER G.Abstract :
An important evolution was observed in Belgium concerning its legislation related to food together with the organization of competent authorities and inspection services. Laboratories,
officially in charge of the control of residues and contaminants, have also been reorganized.
The evolution of the results of residues and contaminants surveillance is described. The number of non compliant samples has dramatically decreased probably due to the adoption of H
and R status. Nevertheless if progresses done at the analytical level are well received, it must be noted that these progresses have drawbacks when banned
substances are concerned (ex.: Red Soudan dye additive, semicarbazide used as an indicative metabolite of nitrofuran in eggs) and action limits for these prohibited substances are probably not toxicologically justified.
Concerning detection of prohibited
substances in food, progresses have still to be performed as the use of not yet identified substances is suspected. New
biological screening methods based on the use of “receptors” should play a positive role in solving this problem. Get the PDF Contact person : g.maghuin@ulg.ac.be |
