A study was undertaken in Benin between August 2004 and July 2005 to monitor, in a 12 months period, cattle infestation
by ticks in Atacora and Donga Departments. Four thousand seven hundred and twenty six ticks were collected from
sixty heads (thirty animals per farm), on seven predifined anatomical areas : «ears», «headneck », «abdomen-legs», «anogenital area», «tail», «feet» and
«rump». Eight species of ticks belonging to four genders were found: Amblyomma variegatum (69.0 %), Boophilus annulatus (2.8 %), Boophilus geigeyi (20.1 %), Hyalomma truncatum (2.8 %), Hyalomma impressum (2.1 %), Hyalomma marginatum (1.3 %), Rhipicephalus senegalensis (1.2 %) and Rhipicephalus muhsamae (0.7 %). The ticks’preferential sites of feeding on the animals were also discussed. Get the PDF Contact person : farougou_s@yahoo.fr |
