Ann. Méd. Vét., 2006, 150 (1), pp 43-55 FusariotoxicosisCAVRET S., LECOEUR S.Abstract :
Fusariotoxins, secondary metabolites of Fusarium, are widely spread in cereals and their products which represent an
important part of animal feed.
Fusariotoxin effects on animal health are numerous and sometimes remain unknown.
Consumption of contaminated feed can induce acute or chronic effects varying according to the compound. Deoxynivalenol
and trichothecene majority are linked to feed refusal and disturbances in gastrointestinal tract. Zearalenone is known for its hyperoestrogenism.
Fumonisins are associated with leukoencephalomalacia and pulmonary oedema. These mycotoxin impacts on animal
health depend on several factors as species, microorganism detoxication, other mycotoxin co-occurrence… Globally, fusariotoxins represent a potential
risk for animals only when they are greatly absorbed or at little dose but during a long time.
Economic consequences can then be important (animal lost, decrease in animal production, in reproduction capacities…) and these animal products can
contain toxic residues. Get the PDF Contact person : cavret@isara.fr |
