Ann. Méd. Vét., 2005, 149 (4), pp 202-212 Estrogen like substances in ruminant dietsDUQUESNOY N.Abstract :
The endocrine disruptors are a more and more current problem because they have important repercussions in veterinary
medicine by direct interference with animal health and breeding profitability. These factors have also important effects on human health by production of contaminated food. After a description of
the natural estrogen like substances
found in ruminants diets, this article will review the biological and analytical methods of their identification and their quantification.
The absorption mechanisms and the metabolism will be described in the ruminant’s digestion specific context. The favorable and unfavorable effects of these disruptors upon the organism will be envisaged and illustrated in different polygastric (bovine, ovine and caprine) and monogastric (porcine and human) species.
Finally, the management will treat of the factors acting upon animal feed contamination and the practical methods of prevention and decrease of these
contaminations. Get the PDF Contact person : natacha.duquesnoy@ulg.ac.be |
