Ann. Méd. Vét., 2004, 148 (4), pp 202-206 Antimicrobial activities of essential oils from tree african Cymbopogon against microorganisms pathogenic in petsKOBA K., SANDA K., RAYNAUD C., NENONENE Y. A., MILLET J., CHAUMONT J.P.Abstract :
Essential oils of Cymbopogon citratus L., Cymbopogon nardus L. and Cymbopogon schoenanthus L. were analyzed by gaz chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) for their chemical composition and chemotypes. Their antimicrobial activity was studied in vitro on seven fungal strains and seven bacterial strains responsible for dogs and cats mixed infections. All bacterial strains tested appeared to be insensitive to the essential oils studied. On the other hand Cymbopogon citratus L. (citral chemotype) and Cymbopogon nardus L. (citronellal/geraniol chemotype) showed very good fungistatic activity with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) between 75 and 200 µg.ml-1. These oils could have potential applications in veterinary medecine. Get the PDF Contact person : kkoba@hotmail.com |
